Not sure whether there was any deliberate significance in George (and Ringo) going it alone in Hard Days Night. In the convention of narrative, the opportunity of breaking out into a subplot would delay the punchline whilst keeping the attention and interest of the audience. Simple story telling at its best but the style would also lend itself to (Dick) Lester's reportage and in doing so demand well framed images which might ironically give valuable insights into the individual's character. A topic which would fascinate Beatleologists.
